About the role

We are looking for a Tech Lead - Super to join our Technology team in Sydney.

Superannuation is one of the most important financial products Australians will ever use, yet the customer experience across the industry often remains complex, fragmented and difficult to navigate. At Stake, we're building a different future. One where super is intuitive, transparent and designed around the needs of modern investors.

As Tech Lead for the Super squad, you'll lead the engineering team responsible for building and scaling this experience. You'll be accountable for both delivery and long-term technical excellence, helping shape the systems, architecture and engineering culture that support the next phase of Stake Super's growth. Your team will build products that help customers better understand, manage and grow their retirement savings while ensuring the reliability, security and trust expected of a regulated financial product.

You'll be a key member of Technology's leadership group, partnering closely with Product, Design, Operations, Risk and Compliance leaders to solve complex customer problems and deliver meaningful business outcomes. This is a highly influential role with significant ownership across strategy, execution and team development. We work hybrid spending 3 days in our beautiful, dog-friendly Sydney office.

What success looks like

Within your first two years, you'll have:

  • Built and developed a high-performing engineering team that consistently delivers high-quality outcomes while maintaining a strong culture of ownership and accountability
  • Helped establish Stake Super as a category-leading product through reliable delivery, strong technical foundations and exceptional customer experiences
  • Improved the scalability, reliability and maintainability of the systems underpinning Stake Super, enabling continued growth with confidence
  • Embedded operational excellence across the team through strong incident management, service ownership and continuous improvement practices
  • Guided key architectural decisions that balance customer needs, regulatory requirements and long-term technical sustainability
  • Built effective partnerships across Product, Design, Operations, Risk and Compliance, helping teams move quickly while managing risk appropriately
  • Strengthened engineering standards through mentoring, coaching and thoughtful technical leadership
  • Played a meaningful role in shaping the broader technology strategy and leadership culture across Stake
You'll thrive here if…
  • You've led engineering teams before and understand how leadership evolves as teams and systems become more complex
  • You combine strong technical judgement with a pragmatic approach to delivery and understand how to make effective trade-offs
  • You care deeply about customer outcomes and hold a high bar for reliability, quality and operational excellence
  • You're comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on involvement when required
  • You have strong commercial awareness and consistently make decisions that support broader business outcomes
  • You build trust through clear communication, thoughtful leadership and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed
Bonus if you've ever
  • Built or scaled products within superannuation, investing, wealth management or other regulated financial services environments
  • Led teams responsible for customer-facing products operating at significant scale
  • Worked closely with risk, compliance and operational teams in highly regulated industries
  • Driven architectural modernisation, platform migrations or large-scale system improvements
  • Supported high-availability production systems where reliability and customer trust are critical
