Job Description

  • Full time, ongoing position at HEW level 9.
  • Parramatta campus with flexible working arrangements.
  • Salary: $137,681 – $147,032 p.a., plus 17% Super and Loading.

The Opportunity
At Western Sydney University, we are creating a new era for AI enablement across education, research and operations. Through this role you will join a landmark opportunity to share the future of our AI capabilities that will underpin future success and our transition to an AI-powered world, withing a people-first mindset. You will provide technical leadership for the design, development, deployment and operational support of generative and agentic AI solutions across Western Sydney University. Working within the Data Office, you will translate strategic and operational priorities into practical, secure and scalable technical solutions that support student success, research impact, staff productivity and community engagement.

 

You will work closely with stakeholders across curriculum, research, operations and professional services to identify high-value AI use cases, assess feasibility and shape solution options. This includes contributing to the AI Use Case Portfolio, guiding technical assessment, solution design, estimation, prototyping, implementation and support for prioritised initiatives.

 

You will lead technical enablement across enterprise AI platforms, including Microsoft 365, Copilot, automation tools, cloud services, data platforms, APIs and integration patterns. You will embed responsible AI, privacy, cyber security, data governance, lifecycle controls, testing, monitoring and documentation into technical delivery, helping teams use AI safely and effectively.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Deliver secure, scalable and supportable agentic AI and automation solutions.
  • Translate complex stakeholder needs into practical AI-enabled solution designs.
  • Support prioritised AI initiatives through assessment, estimation and delivery guidance.
  • Embed responsible AI, privacy, cyber security and data governance into delivery.
  • Build reusable technical patterns, standards and guidance for AI adoption.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, software engineering, information technology, cloud computing or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing and deploying AI, automation, analytics, machine learning, generative AI or agentic AI solutions in complex organisations.
  • Advanced technical skills across generative AI, agentic AI architectures, prompt engineering, workflow automation, APIs, integration, cloud platforms, data engineering, model evaluation and AI lifecycle management.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and consulting capability across academic, professional, technical and executive groups.
  • Sound knowledge of responsible AI, privacy, cyber security, data governance, transparency, testing, monitoring, documentation and operational controls.
