BE THE DIFFERENCE
At AIA we don’t simply believe in being ‘the best’. We believe in better – because there’s no limit to how far ‘better’ can take us. Everything we do is driven by our purpose to make a difference by helping people embrace Healthier, Longer, Better Lives. And every one of our people has an important role to play. If you want to make a difference by helping shape a healthier, better-protected Australia, read on.

The opportunity:

Join AIA to lead the analysis of technical requirements and the design, delivery and enhancement of software solutions across the technology portfolio. Ensure solutions align with IT strategy, architecture, security and coding standards, and meet functional, operational, performance, accessibility and user experience requirements. Provide technical leadership to internal teams, vendors and SaaS partners through clear work packages, governance and production handover. Mentor developers, support application owners, and contribute to platform, renewal and standards strategy, while ensuring application stability, security and currency.

To do this successfully you will:

  • Collaborate with Technical Delivery Leads, business SMEs, project teams and vendors to analyse requirements, shape solutions and manage technical expectations.
  • Define and own end‑to‑end technical solutions within the domain, aligned to enterprise architecture, standards and non‑functional requirements.
  • Produce and review high‑quality technical designs and documentation, ensuring integration, security, performance and scalability.
  • Provide accurate development, testing and integration estimates, including input into project planning and parametric estimation models.
  • Guide, mentor and direct developers and vendors, including hands‑on development where required.
  • Support BAU activities by maintaining development environments, improving processes, managing change and supporting incidents and deployments as needed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through innovation, stakeholder engagement and ongoing professional development.

Successful applications will demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualification in technology or a related discipline, or 6+ years’ experience in application or data development.
  • Commercial experience in software development, with exposure to insurance or financial services preferred.
  • Strong experience across modern data and analytics platforms including Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Power BI and Unity Catalog.
  • Experience working with legacy and enterprise data platforms such as IBM DataStage, IBM CDC, IBM Cognos, DB2, MSSQL and SSIS.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with a strong understanding of software design and architectural patterns.
  • Experience working across Agile, Hybrid and Waterfall delivery methodologies, supported by CI/CD, DevOps and monitoring tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and continuous improvement mindset, with relevant cloud or platform certifications highly regarded.
