Transport Planner/Traffic Engineer Mid to Senior Level – Integrated Transport & Mobility (can be based from either our Sydney, Newcastle or Canberra offices)

The role

Our NSW & ACT Integrated Transport and Mobility (ITM) Practice is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Transport Planner/ traffic engineer (5–10 years experience) to join our team where you can work from either our Sydney, Newcastle or Canberra offices.

You will work on a mix of Transport Impact Assessments (TIA), strategic transport planning, and transport advisory projects for major developments and infrastructure. This is a hands-on role with direct client exposure, and clear pathways to senior and leadership opportunities.

As part of our team, you'll work directly alongside recognised industry leaders, each bringing more than two decades of experience delivering some of Australia's most significant transport and infrastructure projects. This close mentorship and day-to-day exposure to senior practitioners provides a unique opportunity to accelerate your technical capability, broaden your industry knowledge, and fast-track your professional growth.

You will:

  • Lead and deliver Transport Impact Assessments for complex development and infrastructure projects
  • Contribute to strategic transport planning, active transport, and multimodal access studies
  • Support or manage projects end-to-end, including scope, programme, budget, and risk
  • Engage directly with clients, approval authorities, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Aurecon
  • Contribute to winning work and growing trusted client relationships

What we’re looking for

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with 5–10 years’ experience in transport planning/ traffic engineering
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing Transport Impact Assessments
  • Sound technical judgement and confidence working with data, modelling outputs, and policy frameworks
  • Experience supporting or leading project delivery
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative mindset and interest in mentoring others
