About the business/role/team
The Innovation Lab plays a key role in identifying, evaluating and implementing emerging technologies that support the Reserve Bank of Australia’s strategic objectives. The team is responsible for advancing the Bank’s AI strategy, uplifting AI capability across the organisation and delivering innovative Generative AI solutions that improve productivity, collaboration and operational efficiency.

In this role, you will report to the Innovation Lab Manager and work closely with the AI Delivery Lead, AI Engineers, technology teams, business stakeholders and vendors across the Bank. The team operates at the intersection of strategy, experimentation and delivery, leveraging platforms including Microsoft Foundry, Cloudera Machine Learning, Posit and other enterprise AI capabilities to develop secure and scalable AI applications.

About the role

As an AI Engineer – GenAI Platforms & Applications, you will help design, build and deploy enterprise AI solutions that support productivity uplift and AI adoption across the Bank.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop Generative AI applications and proof-of-concepts using enterprise AI platforms such as Microsoft Foundry and Cloudera Machine Learning

  • Build integrations, APIs, copilots, automations and AI-enabled workflows that improve employee productivity and operational efficiency

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate opportunities into practical AI solutions

  • Contribute to the implementation of the Bank’s AI strategy through experimentation, delivery and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Support AI platform engineering activities including orchestration, agent engineering, model integration and application deployment

  • Ensure AI solutions align with enterprise security, governance and responsible AI requirements

  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, tools and patterns to help inform innovation and future capability uplift

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams across architecture, security, infrastructure and data domains

About You

You will bring:

  • Strong experience developing cloud-native applications and services using modern engineering practices and architectures

  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI technologies, enterprise AI platforms or LLM-based application development

  • Experience building scalable applications, APIs and microservices using Python and cloud technologies

  • Experience integrating AI capabilities into enterprise platforms, workflows and business applications

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to rapidly prototype and iterate solutions

  • Understanding of enterprise security, responsible AI and governance considerations within regulated environments

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure AI services, Microsoft Foundry, machine learning platforms or data science tooling will be highly regarded

  • Familiarity with AI orchestration frameworks, RAG architectures, vector databases and agent-based solutions is desirable
