About the business/role/team

This role is part of the Innovation Lab, the Bank's hub for emerging technologies and future-focused solutions. The Lab is responsible for delivering the Bank's AI strategy by exploring and implementing advanced technologies to drive innovation and organisational efficiency.

As an AI Engineer, you will report to the Innovation Lab manager. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and governance specialists. The team designs, prototypes, and scales AI-powered applications across the Bank, focusing on responsible AI, security, and integration into enterprise systems.

You will be part of a collaborative, agile environment that values experimentation, continuous learning, and real-world impact. This role will help shape the future of AI within one of Australia's most trusted financial institutions.

This is a 2-year fixed term contract.
About the role

As an AI Engineer, you will:

  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered applications and agents using Azure AI Foundry and other approved platforms.

  • Integrate pre-trained models into enterprise systems, ensuring seamless interaction with existing workflows.

  • Optimise AI models for performance, scalability, and compliance with internal governance standards.

  • Implement robust unit testing and validation techniques to ensure model accuracy and reliability.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, engineers, and product owners in an agile environment.

  • Stay current with emerging AI technologies and design patterns, applying them to real-world use cases within the Bank.

About you

You will bring:

  • Proven experience with cloud-based AI platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure AI and related services.

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, and C#, with a focus on AI/ML development.

  • Expertise in cloud-native development, including API gateways, Kubernetes, and containerisation.

  • Familiarity with ModelOps and CI/CD pipelines for deploying and managing AI solutions.

  • A solid understanding of AI validation techniques, model testing, and performance tuning.

  • Experience working in agile teams and collaborating across disciplines.

  • Awareness of AI risk and governance considerations, especially in regulated environments like financial services.
