Power & Energy
SMEC is a global provider of engineering, environmental and construction services, consolidating all aspects of Energy and Renewables Infrastructure from planning to delivery. Our expertise includes grid connection studies, substation design, policy and sector planning, carbon services, load forecasting models, and long-term generation planning using simulation and dynamic programming techniques. We have delivered stand-alone and grid-tie photovoltaic and solar thermal projects, ‘water to wire’ services on mini and micro-hydro projects, geothermal power plants and generation facilities.
The Role
We’re seeking to engage an Assistant Project Manager to join our Power & Energy Team. Based in Melbourne, you’ll be responsible for assisting in the project management of medium – large scale Renewable and Transmission & Distribution Projects. This position also assists with financial management, client management and contract administration of delegated projects and provides support to project personnel under the general direction and guidance of a Project Manager.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the financial management, client liaison and contract administration of assigned projects under guidance of project manager/s;
- Develop project budget from project and resource plans, assist with managing the project through development and implementation stages according to budget;
- Assist project manager/s in the project control and cost management solutions for projects or sections of projects;
- Use a variety of standard project management and cost management principles to solve problems;
- Oversight and governance of projects to resolve project issues and ensure project product is of high quality;
- Design and develop strategies and processes, in consultation with project personnel/ stakeholders, which will support the implementation of the project;
- Ensure SMEC policies and procedures are adhered to, including quality, document management, project management, and Workplace Health and Safety;
- Manage and control review processes to ensure procedures are adhered to;
- In conjunction with project manager/s, identify risks affecting delivery of project outcomes and, where necessary, deploy contingencies to ensure completion of project;
About You
Suitable applicants will be/have:
- Relevant tertiary Qualification
- Demonstrated project management and consulting skills, achieving prescribed budget, timeframe and client requirements;
- Sound communication, facilitation and influencing skills to interact with key stakeholders;
- Proven client service orientation and understanding of CRM principles;
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant design codes, Local Regulatory Authority Guidelines and Australian Standards;
- Developing ability to identify the appropriate resourcing for projects;
- Computer literacy including proficiency in MS Office & EPICOR
