About the role 

At Ampol, we're reimagining the future of transport through our Z Energy and AmpCharge brands, our growing electric vehicle charging network. As New Zealand's EV market continues to evolve, we're investing in infrastructure, partnerships and innovative solutions that support customers on the transition to cleaner energy. 

We are looking for a commercially minded Business Development Manager to join our Energy Solutions team and play a key role in expanding our public charging network across New Zealand. This position is responsible for identifying, negotiating and managing strategic third-party partnerships, while ensuring our charging network continues to deliver strong commercial outcomes and exceptional customer experiences. 

Reporting to the Public Charging Solutions Manager, you will be responsible for originating and negotiating EV public charging agreements across New Zealand, managing key commercial partnerships and supporting the successful deployment of EV charging infrastructure at third-party sites. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders across deployment, legal, finance, marketing and operations to drive growth, optimise network performance and deliver long-term value. 

This is a permanent, full-time role based in our Auckland or Wellington offices with a hybrid working arrangement. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Identify, negotiate and execute commercial agreements for new EV charging locations across New Zealand  
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with third-party partners and site hosts  
  • Coordinate the end-to-end onboarding and deployment of EV charging infrastructure at destination sites  
  • Manage ongoing contract administration, renewals and partnership reviews  
  • Monitor network performance, utilisation, revenue and commercial outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement  
  • Work cross-functionally with legal, deployment, marketing, finance and operational teams to ensure successful delivery  
  • Support billing, invoicing and contract governance processes  
  • Gather partner and customer feedback to enhance the AmpCharge value proposition and customer experience  
  • Drive initiatives that support the growth and performance of Ampol's public charging network 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • 5+ years' experience in business development, sales or account management roles  
  • Experience within commercial property, sustainability, electric mobility, fleet management or a related sector  
  • Demonstrated success negotiating commercial contracts, leases or partnership agreements with large organisations  
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills  
  • Experience managing third-party partnerships and commercial agreements  
  • Sound commercial acumen with the ability to analyse performance and identify growth opportunities  
  • Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving capabilities  
  • Experience with contract administration, governance and reporting processes  
  • High levels of digital literacy and confidence working across multiple systems and reporting tools
