Role Purpose

As a Business Strategy Principal, you are passionate about shaping the future of the business and influencing Telstra's long-term Connected Future 30 strategy. By leveraging your deep strategic expertise, you provide the essential business and commercial insights required to support your assigned portfolio, senior stakeholders, and the business as a whole.

Your exceptional interpersonal effectiveness allows you to lead cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems and influence key stakeholders to shape and deliver complex and high-value programs of work. You will play a crucial role in driving forward Telstra’s Connected Future 30 strategy, and shaping business-unit strategies that deliver against our long-term Group strategy.

As Telstra has a central agile strategy function, you will have the opportunity to work across several key business units, including: Telstra Consumer, Telstra Business, Telstra Enterprise, Product & Technology, and/or Telstra International. You will also work on a wide breadth of strategic project types.

Key Responsibilities

You will bring your role to life by:

  • Solving complex problems - Actively leverage knowledge, commercial acumen, and strategic expertise to solve complex problems and lead the creation of actionable strategies that position the organisation for future success

  • Developing and articulating clear strategic direction – Take personal accountability and strong ownership for driving the development and articulation of a clear strategic direction for Telstra, keeping in mind the evolving dynamics of the industry

  • Analysing new and emerging trends and translating insights into goals – Leverage extensive industry knowledge and experience in designing actionable business strategies to analyse new and emerging trends, evaluate their impact on Telstra’s long-term needs, and turn insights into well-defined goals

  • Collaborating with key decision makers – Authentically engage and collaborate with key decision makers (including the C-suite) to understand the impact of changes in the market, anticipate and mitigate risks, and prioritise resources and budgets to enable the business to pivot toward new opportunities

  • Engaging and influencing key stakeholders – Engage and effectively influence key stakeholders across different business units and collaborate across a complex, diverse, and multi-stakeholder landscape to reinforce future strategic plans and ensure the success of Telstra's Connected Future 30 strategy

  • Presenting to senior and/or large stakeholder groups – Apply a breadth of knowledge and expertise in presenting to senior and/or large stakeholder groups using presentations, word documents, and war games, engaging with key personnel across the business and ensuring their buy-in to relevant topics

  • Effectively translating and communicating key information – Translate and effectively communicate information into useful insights to ensure key stakeholders understand the purpose, objectives, and implementation plan of the agreed business strategy

  • Creating data-driven strategies – Utilise data and analytics to understand commercial problems, extract and communicate meaningful information, and challenge senior stakeholders to uncover the root cause of issues to develop data-driven strategies

  • Managing highly engaged teams – Leverage leadership skills to manage a high-performing and highly engaged team (within, and external to, the strategy team) by providing coaching and identifying opportunities to develop the necessary skills to deliver valuable strategic insights that enable growth in your business area

About You

Your leadership skills and strategic expertise will see you work with complex stakeholder groups at various levels and across Telstra Group. In doing so, you will help shape strategy across senior stakeholders, including our C-suite, the CEO, and the Board.

In addition, you will have:

  • Extensive proven strategy experience at a top tier management consulting firm and/or internal business strategy experience

  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with an ability to build credibility with senior leaders and executive stakeholders

  • Telco industry expertise and experience preferred (but not required)

  • A strong ability to apply solid business acumen and be commercially astute

  • Strong analytical and strategy problem-solving skills, and the ability to build sustainable, scalable solutions and processes to meet complex strategic problems
