About the team

The Barings Asset Based Finance (ABF) team in Australia is a specialist fixed income manager with deep expertise across Australian and international Residential Mortgage Backed Securities (RMBS) and Asset Backed Securities (ABS) markets. As a small, dynamic, and highly cohesive team, ABF Australia has delivered sustained growth in funds under management, creating a rare opportunity for a junior Database Analyst to join a motivated, high-performing business.

Job Summary

Data sits at the heart of Barings's research-intensive investment process. As a Database Analyst, you will support the day-to-day operations of the ABF Australia team, including running daily and monthly data processes. Over time, you will also contribute to the support, design, build, maintenance, and enhancement of ABF Australia's database systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and enhancing ABF Australia's existing SQL database architecture;
  • Executing daily and monthly processes critical to portfolio surveillance and investment decisions;
  • Developing and improving data processing and reporting solutions using SQL, VBA, Python, and DAX;
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate collection of data each day;
  • Advising on and implementing the best methods to query and extract data for management and client reporting;
  • Providing database troubleshooting, bug fixing, and problem resolution;
  • Producing and maintaining comprehensive database system documentation;
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the Research and Data team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (required);
  • Strong experience with SQL Server, including database design, optimization, tables, indexes, and stored procedures;
  • Advanced SQL and Excel skills;
  • Experience with VBA, DAX, and Python (beneficial);
  • Knowledge of fixed income credit markets and market risk, including asset-backed securities (beneficial);
  • A sound understanding of financial mathematics (preferred);
  • Ability to work independently within a small team and manage competing priorities;
  • Strong communication skills and excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and resolve challenges efficiently.
