A Snapshot

As Embodied Carbon Manager, based in our HQ in Singapore or Sydney you will report to the Vice-President of Innovation and Intelligence and work closely with various teams and leadership across the Asia Pacific region, making your mark in a number of ways: 

  • Growing and expanding AirTrunk’s embodied carbon strategy: strategy definition and continuous update, developing the tools and methodologies for quantification of embodied carbon emissions in AirTrunk’s development activities, and defining and implementing AirTrunk’s roadmap for reduction of the embodied carbon emisions. Working with different teams to implement the methodologies, and assess potential solutions for decarbonizing the build environment.
  • Leadership: becoming AirTrunk’s subject matter expert on embodied carbon and managing the implementation of the emissions-reduction roadmap through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for setting up the methodologies and prioritisation of initiatives towards decarbonising the built environment, as well as overseeing their implementation.
  • Partnership building: identifying, selecting and collaborating with the best partners in the supply chain that can assist in the decarbonisation of AirTrunk’s data centre developments. You will establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, such as customers, suppliers, contractors, regulators, NGOs, academia and media, and foster a culture of co-innovation and co-creation.

Your Day to Day  

  • Managing the Embodied Carbon Strategy: providing the vision towards embodied carbon reduction and ensuring that the strategy is continuously updated with new technologies or solutions.
  • Conducting market research and analysis to identify and evaluate potential technologies and solutions to reduce embodied carbon for the construction of AirTrunk data centre campuses.
  • Developing business cases and feasibility studies for opportunities that reduce the embodied carbon emissions, including technical, financial, environmental and social aspects.
  • Leading the definition and implementation of the methodologies for the embodied carbon quantification across the design and construction phases of the data centre projects. Training internal and external teams on Embodied Carbon principles and quantification.
  • Leading the dialogue and setting up the requirements to AirTrunk’s general contractors and equipment vendors to ensure accurate documentation of  embodied carbon and enforcing appropriate chains of custody and decarbonisation efforts in line with AirTrunk’s embodied carbon reduction roadmap.
  • Envisioning the future of Life Cycle Assessments for the data centres of the future
  • Managing the training, coordination and communication with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, partners, vendors, consultants, contractors, regulators and media.
  • Monitoring and reporting the performance and impact related to embodied carbon across AirTrunk’s portfolio, setting up data bases to ensure automated analysis of emissions is achieved in the short term, in collaboration with the Sustainability and Energy and Climate teams.
  • Driving continuous improvement and innovation in the Embodied Carbon practice, by applying best practices, lessons learned and feedback from stakeholders.
  • Representing AirTrunk at industry events and forums and promoting InfraScale as a thought leader and a differentiator in the hyperscale data centre market. 

Requirements  

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, environmental science, sustainability or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in life cycle assessments, carbon reduction, sustainability strategies, environmental product declarations.
  • A proven track record of understanding the quantification of embodied carbon in the build environment. Knowledge of environmental product declarations in the construction industry, the CIBSE TM65 methodology or other methodologies would be advantageous.
  • A strong understanding of the GHG reporting protocols and the general rules of carbon accounting, and their application to the data centre industry.
  • A passion for sustainability, decarbonisation and social responsibility, and a drive to make a positive difference in the world.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • A high degree of autonomy, initiative and ownership, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the Asia Pacific region and occasionally globally.
