The opportunity

The Engineering Director is responsible for reporting to key stakeholders including the Client, the Project Manager, Program Director and the Project Board, the successful applicant can envision themselves attending to duties such as:

What you’ll do

  • The Engineering Director is responsible for the execution of the Engineering and Design scopes of work in coordination with the procurement and delivery teams, and in accordance with The Downer Standard
  • Provide weekly updates to the project planner (P6 or MS Project) based on the actuals from the project dashboard and design progress tracking tools 
  • Provide monthly updates on KPI’s and design progress (cost, time and hours) including Engineering Change Management
  • Ensure the engineering design team has a complete understanding of the scope of works utilising adequate tools in compliance with the Downer Standard and Engineering Delivery Model (EDM) Practical Guide 
  • Ensure delivery of Engineering & Design scope of Work in line with agreed budget and program
  • Effective risk identification, assessment and review processes are implemented and maintained, and the currency of the risks and treatment plans in the Project Risk Register are maintained 
  • Actively supports established and/or new project engineers in their development through effective mentoring and coaching
  • Conduct regular audits of the design disciplines to ensure gated delivery model is being followed and evidence-based records are collected accordingly 
  • Undertake regular site and stakeholder travel across the East Coast of Australia, providing visible leadership, supporting project delivery teams, and fostering strong client relationships

What we’re looking for

  • Tertiary qualified Engineer preferably a member of Engineers Australia 
  • Certified Project Management professional (PMP) or AIPM preferable 
  • Highly qualified with a minimum 15 years’ experience in engineering
  • Fully proficient within power engineering, lead with strong engineering management, design management skills in multi-disciplinary engineering specialised in design delivery of technical projects 
  • Experience with end-to-end delivery of large infrastructure projects from concept design to post IFC activities including completions, handover, and close-out 
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of project delivery, including contractual and commercial management, financial practices, changes, and variations management 
  • Able to evaluate information quickly, identifying key issues and formulate conclusions based on sound, practical judgement, experience, and common sense
    Excellent management, leadership and influencing skills throughout
