About this role

Stake is looking for a commercially minded, technically strong and highly collaborative Financial Controller to uplift the maturity of financial control and risk management across the Finance team. As a senior member of the function, you’ll build scalable processes, drive efficiency and support customer-centric outcomes while also shaping and accelerating Stake’s treasury capability.

You will be joining our high-performing Finance team who enables and supports our Australia, New Zealand, India and Brazil operations during an exciting hyper-growth phase. Opportunity to work in a truly customer-centric environment where innovative and seamless products and services are evolving the way Australians and Kiwis invest.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Risk & controls: Strengthen finance risk frameworks and implement robust, well-tested controls across key areas (P&L, balance sheet, tax) aligned with Stake’s risk appetite.
  • Systems & processes: Ensure best-in-class tools, controls, and workflows across finance operations, including reconciliations, payments, integrations, and audit trails.
  • Governance & policies: Maintain financial policies and support compliance, while contributing to broader cost management and governance initiatives.
  • Business partnering: Act as a strategic finance partner to Product and Operations, embedding financial discipline into processes and product decisions.
  • Reporting: Own end-to-end month-end close and deliver accurate, timely management and statutory reporting for leadership and the Board.
  • Audit, tax & regulatory: Lead audits, manage external advisors, and ensure full compliance with tax and regulatory reporting requirements (e.g. AFSL).
  • Data & insights: Build a reliable single source of truth for financial and operational data, enabling accurate reporting and decision-making.
  • Continuous improvement: Drive process optimisation, automation, and scalable finance systems to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Leadership: Lead, coach and develop a team of accountants; set objectives, manage performance and ensure high quality deliverables and succession planning.
  • Strategic support: Support the Head of Finance and Senior Finance Business Partners on finance strategy, forecasting, budgeting and initiatives to scale the function and inform commercial decisions.
A bit about you
  • 7+ years accounting experience with significant ownership of close, statutory reporting and audit. CA/CPA preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in fintech, payments or other complex ledger systems; comfortable with GL integrations and data pipelines.
  • Strong regulatory and ideally some tax experience, including working with AFSL or comparable regimes.
  • Proven track record uplifting controls and embedding risk frameworks.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with experience partnering with Product/Data/Engineering teams to drive commercial outcomes
  • A practical mindset for process improvement and automation, backed by a track record of implementing scalable processes.

At Stake, we’re more interested in your attitude than your resume. If you believe this is a role you want to jump into, please apply and let us know why in your cover letter!
