Ericsson is now recruiting for the role of Legal Counsel for the Korea Customer Unit (Korea CU) within the Market Area Northeast Asia (MNEA).
This role reports to the Senior Legal Counsel in Korea, tentatively.
This role requires working across both our Gangnam and Gasan offices, with regular travel between the two locations. For the first six months, the role will be primarily based at our Gasan office.
This role will be responsible for ensuring that under guidance of the Head of Legal in MNEA and collaboration with Senior Legal Counsel in Korea, all activities and related risks of the Korea business are managed responsibly and supported with legal services, across all relevant legal disciplines including sales, procurement and other business-related agreements, legal entity governance, competition and data privacy laws and regulations etc.
This person and the Korea legal affairs team are also part of Group Function Legal Affairs and Compliance (GFLA) and will also be supported by legal centers of expertise from other units in GFLA as and when needed.
The Legal function also works closely with the Compliance function to ensure that the objectives of the Ericsson Group, MNEA/CU, and GFLA are fulfilled in Ericsson Korea Partners and its subsidiaries (including iPECS) in a sustainable manner. The Legal Counsel in Korea requires proven integrity and recognized experience, skills, and competence, good business understanding and awareness, and an ability to support and work with various parts of the organization.
What you will do:
• Ensure that legal, compliance, and reputational risks of the Ericsson Group are proactively and responsibly managed in a transparent way towards and in coordination with Senior Legal Counsel in Korea, and other functional representatives at Korea CU, MA, or Group level.
• Ensure proper, efficient, and timely internal legal support for the execution of the Korea business plan, including contracting (e.g., sales and procurement) and dispute management.
• In concert with the GFLA Global Litigation team, ensure appropriate internal legal support and oversight in relation to disputes, regulatory matters, and enforcement proceedings.
• Ensure proper support in related corporate governance activities
• Support the oversight, administration, and operation of Ericsson's legal entities in Korea (eg. support affiliates or subsidiaries in other locations within Seoul)
• Work proactively to improve the general legal awareness in Korea.
• Report local legal matters to the Senior Legal Counsel in Korea to enable line of sight and manage matters of group relevance (financially, operationally, or reputationally).
• Contribute towards proper management of business affairs and associated risk management in Korea.
The skills you bring:
• Strong generalist lawyer with 5 to 10 years post-qualification experience (PQE): Korean bar qualified required.
• Law degree from an accredited law school (e.g., JD, LLB, or LLM).
• Preferred 2 to 3 years of law firm experience and 2 to 3 years of in-house experience.
• Solid grounding in compliance matters, including anti-bribery/corruption, data privacy, competition law, and sanctions/export controls, and basic understanding of IPR.
• Sound understanding and awareness of a complex tech business (or a highly analogous regulated business akin to Ericsson).
• Ability to handle complexity and stress, make the right judgment calls and prioritizations, and independently manage legal matters and/or resources
• Proven business acumen and strategic thinking / the ability to advise the business on risks and provide guidance.
• Strong negotiation and partnering skills, good networking ability, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to collaborate and harmonize with team members and others, and the ability to work independently on assignments with demonstrated judgment.
• Fluent in Korean and English.
