Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Co-owning and delivering the AI/ML roadmap for the Content group.
  • Accountable for the delivery of the primary identified opportunities in Content, partnering with product and engineering teams.
  • Advocate for AI/ML across teams in Content, facilitating ideation and discovery of use cases; develop quick prototypes; educate PMs, designers, and engineers on what's possible.
  • Contributing to the full life cycle of ML/data models: data analysis, data preprocessing and pipeline, modelling, tuning and productisation.
  • Working alongside data specialists, software engineers and product owners to identify business and growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with MLEs across the organisation to tap into existing ML capabilities and/or work on problems that require intra-group and cross-supergroup solutions.
  • Advocating uptake of AI where relevant and required across the Group.


You're probably a match if

  • You have solid experience building and deploying machine learning models and a strong understanding of end-to-end machine learning pipelines and components.
  • You have worked with a multi-skilled team to deliver a great experience to users.
  • You have a keen interest or prior experience in content-related machine learning projects, such as semantic tagging, content classification, and visual content understanding (highly desirable).
  • You have strong coding proficiency in Python; interviews will be in Python.
  • You are familiar with several of the following: PyTorch, AnyScale, WeightsAndBiases, Kubernetes, Docker.
  • You have a strong understanding of Computer Science/Engineering fundamentals and first principles covering system design, data structures, architecture, and design patterns.
  • You have exposure to data warehouse skills, such as SQL.
  • You have applied research skills with the ability to dig into academic & industry publications and translate this into products and value for users.


About the team
The Content Group is a collection of several groups whose mission is to "build the most inspiring, diverse, and truly local content library on a global scale".
The Content group is a "group of groups" comprising four main areas:

  • Content Partnership and Acquisition
  • Content Platform
  • Content Review
  • Content Strategy and Experience


Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence play an increasingly vital role in how we drive experiences through our content library. The Lead MLE in the Content Group, would be responsible for working with the engineering and product leaders to set the ML strategy across teams and ensure delivery of all relevant projects in the Content group.
