JOB SUMMARY
The Payroll Specialist is an accounting role reporting directly to the Marriott Australia Director of National Payroll. This position is responsible for the end-to-end, timely processing of payroll, including employee benefits such as superannuation and leave, payment obligations for participating properties, and month-end activities. The role also supports Director of National Payroll in delivering high service levels to all properties and acts as a leader in their absence or when the Assistant Payroll Manager or Director of National Payroll is unavailable.

Key Responsibilities
- Process end-to-end payroll on a fortnightly basis.
- Maintain employee payroll records, including salary changes, allowances, and deductions
- Ensure compliance with relevant awards, enterprise agreements, tax laws, and superannuation requirements
- Ensure accurate processing of terminations, redundancies, and other related payments.
- Calculate and process leave entitlements (annual, personal, long service leave)
- Process new starters, terminations, and final payments
- Reconcile payroll reports and payroll-related GL accounts
- Prepare and submit statutory reporting (e.g. PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax)
- Respond promptly to employee payroll queries
- Support audits and provide payroll data as required
- Identify and implement payroll process improvements
- Assist with payroll and financial year-end activities.
- Support internal and external audit requirements.
- Prepare ad-hoc reports as needed.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and Finance teams across participating hotels.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
Payroll Operations
- Assist with processing, maintenance, and administration of end-of-month and end-of-year payroll activities.
- Calculate and manage payroll adjustments, terminations, and leave payments.
- Manage redundancy calculations, including one-off cases or business restructures.
Stakeholder Engagement & Support
- Proactively manage customer and stakeholder relationships, responding to queries and maintaining service quality.
- Provide ongoing support toDirector of National Payrollin payroll processes, system improvements, audits, and coaching of payroll specialists.
- Deliver labor management support and training to Marriott Hotels leadership teams across Australia.
- Assist Payroll Manager with onboarding new payroll team members to ensure consistency in processes.
Candidate profile
- Minimum of one years experience working with the payroll profession
- Knowledge of Federal and state wage award legislation and reporting requirements
- In depth knowledge of payroll related items such as superannuation, payroll tax and leave provisions across multiple states and territories
- ADP and/or EmpliveLabour Management System experience preferred but not essential
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
- Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Professional suite (particularly Excel, Word)
- Ability to effectively communicate accounting information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by the customer.
- Well organized and efficient and the ability to multi-task
