Job Description

The opportunity

As a Portfolio Manager / Senior Investment Analyst, you will be responsible for identifying, researching and recommending high-conviction investment opportunities across the Australian equity market. Through deep fundamental analysis and differentiated research, you'll help build the information and judgement advantage required to deliver long-term excess returns.

You will bring a strong investor mindset, combining intellectual curiosity, analytical rigour and commercial judgement to evaluate opportunities and make recommendations that influence portfolio construction and investment outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Generate investment ideas

  • Identify and recommend high-conviction investment opportunities across Australian equities and adjacent opportunities.
  • Develop clear investment recommendations that articulate valuation, catalysts, risk factors, time horizon and portfolio implications.

Conduct deep fundamental research

  • Analyse financial statements, company strategy, industry structure and competitive positioning.
  • Build and maintain financial models, valuation frameworks and scenario analysis.
  • Continuously refine investment theses as new information emerges.

Develop differentiated insights

  • Undertake extensive primary research through engagement with management teams, customers, suppliers, competitors, industry specialists and site visits.
  • Focus research efforts on the questions most likely to influence investment outcomes.

Drive portfolio outcomes

  • Monitor portfolio and non-portfolio positions.
  • Identify thesis drift, emerging risks and changing market dynamics.
  • Make timely recommendations on buying, holding, selling and position sizing.

Enhance investment decision making

  • Challenge assumptions constructively and contribute independent judgement.
  • Share insights, evidence and research findings to improve team outcomes.
  • Utilise data and AI-enabled tools to strengthen research quality and investment effectiveness.
  • Adhere to governance, responsible investment and risk management requirements.

About you

You are an experienced investor with a passion for markets and a proven ability to uncover high-quality investment opportunities.

You will likely bring:

  • Strong experience within Australian equities investing, research or portfolio management
  • Advanced financial modelling and valuation skills
  • Deep understanding of company analysis and investment risk
  • A demonstrated ability to form independent investment views
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative approach coupled with confidence to challenge thinking when required
  • A commitment to continuous learning and investment excellence

Qualifications

  • Candidates from finance, economics, accounting, engineering and science are welcome, as are candidates from the humanities, law and other unconventional backgrounds.
  • CFA, CA/CPA or a relevant postgraduate qualification is desirable; a demonstrated record of excellence in the candidate's chosen field is the central requirement.

Required experience, understanding or credentials including:

  • Typically five or more years of relevant experience in public equities, investment research, a corporate or industry role, or an adjacent field that has developed transferable investment judgement.
  • Demonstrated track record of generating investment ideas that added value, supported by clear attribution and an ability to explain decisions, mistakes and lessons.
  • Advanced fundamental research skills across accounting, financial modelling, valuation, scenario analysis, management assessment, industry structure and competitive advantage.
  • Strong evidence of primary-research intensity and resourcefulness, including the ability to build trusted relationships, ask incisive questions, visit assets and develop non-consensus insight ethically
