We have achieved the goal of supporting our Kubernetes clusters with thousands of nodes for our AI processing pipelines. This allows our AI teams to move fast and deliver, inspiring us to push the boundaries of what's possible.
We are looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to help drive the team and organisation’s DevOps Maturity via technical leadership, influencing and educating on DevOps best practices, continuous improvement and service availability.
Supporting the Director, DevOps this role within the DevOps team will require strong communication skills, ownership technology components and be able to drive the appropriate actions and present key messages to senior stakeholders across the business.
This role will maintain a direct reporting relationship with a group of up to 3 Senior DevOps Engineers. You will lead, mentor, prioritise work and set the technical direction for cloud infrastructure of Nearmap. You will take ownership of initiatives, including technical roadmaps as well as contribution to cross-functional activities as required.

Our DevOps stack: Kubernetes, IAC, GitLab, Linux, Containerisation, AWS
We are looking for:
- Team-centric leadership experience and willingness to help others succeed.
- Experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure and EKS.
- Experience designing and building application containerisation and modernisation solutions Docker and Kubernetes.
- Extensive experience supporting Linux infrastructure and cloud native workloads.
- Extensive experience writing and deploying Infrastructure as code – Terraform.
- Experience with web-based and/or services-based applications.
- Experience implementing and supporting observability tools and frameworks within Kubernetes and Cloud hosted workloads.
- Scripting and deployment automation experience.
- Experience working and supporting infrastructure in a highly available environment.
- Able to communicate complex IT technology concepts to technical and non-technical staff.
- Expert at designing and building application containerisation and modernisation solutions Docker and Kubernetes.
Nice-to-haves:
- Understanding of enterprise architectures.
- Exposure to NIST Cyber security framework and compliance frameworks (SOC2).
- Exposure with AWS Security Tools.
- Exposure to Container Vulnerability / Compliance Scanning tools.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology (or equivalent)
