The Opportunity
Cochlear has a full time, permanent opportunity for a Privacy Manager to join our Global Privacy Office within the Legal, Compliance and Secretariat Team.
In this role, you will help shape how privacy and data protection are embedded across Cochlear’s global operations. You’ll work closely with teams across the business to support compliance with privacy and data protection laws, including the Australian Privacy Act, GDPR, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations in the markets where we operate.
This is a hands‑on role where your expertise helps translate regulatory requirements into practical, business‑ready solutions — supporting trust, accountability and responsible data use across Cochlear.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Support the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of Cochlear’s global Privacy Compliance Framework.
- Partner with business teams to embed privacy and data protection requirements into day‑to‑day operations and new initiatives.
- Monitor changes in privacy and data protection regulation and help the business understand and respond to their impact.
- Develop and maintain privacy resources, guidance and training that support awareness and accountability.
- Act as a trusted point of contact for privacy‑related queries, supporting pragmatic and proportionate outcomes.
- Help identify and manage privacy risks, including those associated with new projects, data incidents, data subject requests and third‑party relationships.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the Legal, Compliance and Secretariat Team.
What Makes This Opportunity Unique
This role offers the chance to build deep, practical privacy expertise within a complex, global organisation operating across multiple regulatory environments. You’ll work closely with experienced privacy, legal and compliance professionals, gain exposure to global privacy governance and regulatory change, and play an active role in embedding privacy‑by‑design into real business initiatives. It’s an opportunity for someone who enjoys working across boundaries, solving complex problems, and contributing to ethical, responsible data practices in a purpose‑led organisation.
About You
As we grow our operations, we’re looking for someone who brings:
- Experience in privacy and data protection, including assessing privacy risks and translating regulatory requirements into practical business processes, gained through legal practice or specialist risk/compliance roles.
- Strong knowledge of privacy and data protection laws, including the Australian Privacy Act and other major global regulations.
- At least 5 years’ experience working in privacy and data protection.
- Confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels and building trusted, collaborative relationships.
- Sound judgement and the ability to balance regulatory requirements with practical business needs.
- Comfort working autonomously in complex, evolving regulatory environments.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, risk, compliance or a related discipline.
Highly regarded
- Experience with health or sensitive data.
- Experience in large, complex or global organisations.
- Demonstrated experience implementing privacy compliance programs, including control design and ongoing monitoring.
- IAPP certification.
