About the role

We are looking for a Risk and Compliance Manager to join our Risk & Compliance team in Sydney.

Our Risk & Compliance team exists to help Stake grow with confidence. We partner closely with teams across the business to make smart decisions, manage risk thoughtfully and ensure our customers remain at the centre of everything we do. Rather than operating at the sidelines, we're embedded in the work – helping teams move quickly while meeting the standards expected of a leading financial services business.

This is a broad, hands-on role with real ownership. You'll shape how risk and compliance operate day to day, from reviewing customer communications and marketing campaigns to managing incidents, strengthening controls and improving our governance frameworks. You'll work closely with Product, Marketing, Operations and Customer Success to solve problems early, simplify complexity and continuously raise the bar.

As Stake continues to scale, you'll help build the systems, processes and culture that support our next stage of growth. Your work will strengthen customer outcomes, improve operational excellence and ensure risk management becomes an enabler of better decisions across the business. We work hybrid spending 3 days in our beautiful, dog-friendly Sydney office.

What success looks like

Success in this role isn't measured by how many reviews you complete or registers you maintain. It's measured by the confidence the business has to move quickly because the right risk foundations are in place.

  • Become the trusted partner for Marketing, Product, Customer Success and Operations, helping teams navigate regulatory obligations with confidence and pragmatism.
  • Build review processes for marketing, customer communications and complaints that are efficient, well-evidenced and trusted across the business.
  • Own incident, issue and breach management end-to-end, ensuring risks are identified early, resolved effectively and translated into stronger controls.
  • Continuously improve Stake's risk and compliance framework, lifting the quality of controls, testing, assurance and governance as the business scales.
  • Develop reporting and risk data that give leaders clear visibility into emerging risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strengthen Stake's resilience through thoughtful risk assessments across new products, third-party relationships, privacy, AI and operational change.
  • Help foster a culture where managing risk is everyone's responsibility, supported by practical guidance, education and strong partnerships.
  • Play a meaningful role in helping Stake continue growing while maintaining the trust of our customers and regulators.
You'll thrive here if…
  • You bring strong experience in risk and compliance within an AFSL-regulated financial services, brokerage or fintech environment.
  • You balance sound judgement with commercial thinking, knowing how to protect customers while enabling the business to keep moving.
  • You enjoy building relationships across different teams and influence through trust, clarity and credibility.
  • You love bringing structure to complexity, whether that's improving frameworks, strengthening controls or turning data into meaningful insights.
  • You're naturally curious, detail-oriented and comfortable owning work from problem through to outcome.
  • You care about continuous improvement and enjoy raising the standard for both yourself and the people around you.
Bonus if you've ever
  • Worked within an online investing platform, trading business or financial markets environment.
  • Led incident investigations, reportable situations or AFCA matters.
  • Built or implemented GRC tooling or compliance management systems.
  • Conducted privacy, AI or third-party risk assessments in a high-growth technology business.
