The opportunity

We’re seeking a Risk Oversight Lead to own delivery risk outcomes within the First Line of Defence, ensuring initiatives are delivered within risk appetite and supported by effective controls. The role embeds proactive, data‑driven assurance into delivery ways of working, strengthening executive confidence.

About QBE

At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.

We’re an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we’re big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.

What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.

Your new role

As the Risk Oversight Lead, you will take First Line ownership of delivery risk outcomes in line with QBE’s ERM Framework, ensuring change initiatives are delivered within risk appetite and supported by effective controls. You’ll operate as a trusted Line 1 partner, embedding proactive, risk‑based assurance and addressing risks early.

Responsibilities include:

  • Act as the First Line owner for delivery‑related risks, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, mitigated and monitored in line with QBE’s ERM Framework, risk appetite and tolerance settings
  • Provide ongoing delivery assurance oversight across programs, projects and squads, focusing on material risk exposure, mitigation effectiveness, delivery readiness and decision integrity
  • Own the quality and effectiveness of enterprise RAID outcomes, ensuring risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies are clearly articulated, actively managed and supported by evidence of mitigation progress
  • Embed assurance activities into delivery cadence and governance, supporting early identification and escalation of material risks in line with QBE’s Three Lines of Defence model
  • Leverage automation, data and AI‑enabled analytics to identify emerging delivery risk signals, improve RAID hygiene and reduce reliance on manual, retrospective risk reporting
  • Partner closely with Line 2 Risk and Compliance, providing timely, high‑quality evidence to support effective challenge, audits, DRAs and regulatory assurance

About you

You bring strong Line 1 risk capability within complex delivery environments and are comfortable owning delivery risk outcomes in a regulated, APRA‑supervised organisation. You combine sound judgement with data‑driven insight, partner effectively with delivery and risk stakeholders, and take accountability for ensuring risks are identified early, managed well, and supported by clear evidence.

You will have:

  • Proven experience operating as a Line 1 Risk Manager or equivalent, with a strong understanding of risk framework, risk appetite and the Three Lines of Defence
  • Demonstrated capability managing delivery risk and RAID outcomes across programs or portfolios, with clear ownership of residual risk positions and escalation where required
  • Strong understanding of delivery assurance in agile, hybrid and waterfall environments, aligned to enterprise delivery frameworks and minimum standards
  • Highly data‑literate, with experience using delivery and risk tooling such as Jira, Planview, enterprise risk systems and Power BI to generate insight rather than status reporting
  • A confident stakeholder partner with the ability to influence delivery leaders, engage constructively with Line 2 Risk, and support audits, DRAs and regulatory assurance activities
  • A proactive, outcome‑focused mindset with an interest in automation and AI‑enabled analytics to improve risk visibility, assurance quality and delivery predictability
