The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for a full-time Senior Legal Counsel, Asia Pacific & Latin America based in our Sydney Office. In this role, the successful Senior Legal Counsel, Asia Pacific & Latin America will provide strategic commercial legal advice across the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions, partnering closely with business leaders to support Cochlear’s strategic priorities. The role will lead legal support across commercial contracting, compliance, risk management, disputes, and business partnering, ensuring practical and commercially relevant legal solutions are delivered across a complex multi-jurisdictional environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead complex commercial, compliance and contractual matters with real impact.
• Building strong partnerships with business leaders to support operational and strategic objectives.
• Developing and supporting compliance policies, procedures and training programs.
• Negotiating, drafting and reviewing a broad range of commercial agreements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Managing contractual disputes, complaints, investigations and litigation matters.
• Contributing to global legal initiatives, policy development and continuous improvement activities.

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

• Bachelor of Laws degree.
• Admission as a lawyer in Australia.
• Minimum 8-12 years post-qualification experience, working at top tier law firm and/ or ASX listed corporate environment
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating, drafting and advising on complex commercial contracts.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making and judgment capabilities.
• Ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• High levels of integrity, confidentiality, adaptability and professional resilience.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a global team.

Ideal:

• Experience supporting businesses across the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions.
• Experience in a multi-jurisdictional legal role within the medical device or healthcare industry.
• Experience advising on compliance, privacy and corporate governance matters.
• Fluency in Mandarin, Korean or Japanese.
• Experience managing cross-border disputes, investigations and regulatory matters.
