WHO WE ARE

Optiver is a global market maker founded in Amsterdam, with offices in London, Chicago, Austin, New York, Sydney, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and Mumbai. Established in 1986, today we are a leading liquidity provider, with close to 2,000 employees in offices around the world, united in our commitment to improve the market through competitive pricing, execution and risk management. By providing liquidity on multiple exchanges across the world in various financial instruments we participate in the safeguarding of healthy and efficient markets. We provide liquidity to financial markets using our own capital, at our own risk, trading a wide range of products: listed derivatives, cash equities, ETFs, bonds and foreign currencies.

Optiver’s Sydney office is one of the primary players within Asian markets, trading a range of products. Established in 1996, we're an active participant on the Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan exchanges, and act as Optiver’s APAC head office.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

We're looking for a Senior Tech Risk Engineer to join our Tech Risk and Enablement team. The team ensures that the firm's technology function operates efficiently, scales effectively, and stays in control of its risks. You will partner with global CTOs to provide insight into how the technology organisation is performing, and work alongside risk and control teams to strengthen how we govern and respond to technology risks as they evolve. In the projects we run, we act as a central link between technology, trading, compliance, and risk teams. In the services we provide - such as hosting the firm's incident retro process and reviewing emerging risks with senior leadership - you'll work closely with senior leaders, gaining broad exposure across domains and connecting the dots between teams.

While not a software development role, you'll have opportunities to contribute to the team's own tools - generating metrics and dashboards, or improving workflows. You will:

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across trading, technology, and control teams to scope the problem and drive alignment on the path forward.
  • Run incident reviews with engineering leaders to synthesise patterns and risks, and use them to drive improvements across the technology function.
  • Provide global CTOs with insight and suggestions that enable them to achieve operational excellence within the technology function.
  • Identify emerging technology risks, including those introduced by the rapid adoption of AI tools and platforms, and shape how the firm responds.

WHO YOU ARE

We're looking for candidates:

  • With a degree in Computer Science (or a similar field).
  • Who can write code to automate workflows and handle data effectively (extensive software engineering experience is not required).
  • With a track record of taking ambiguous, open-ended problems and driving them through to outcomes, with a hands-on, proactive mindset.
  • With a history of influencing and working well with individuals at all levels across high-performing, talent-dense organisations.
  • Who think pragmatically and communicate strongly.
  • With a strong aptitude for understanding how complex technical systems work.
  • Who are genuinely interested in the financial industry and motivated to learn more.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

You'll join a culture of collaboration and excellence, where you'll be surrounded by curious thinkers and creative problem solvers. Driven by a passion for continuous improvement, you'll thrive in a supportive, high-performing environment alongside talented colleagues, working collectively to tackle some of the most complex problems in the financial markets. In return for your expertise, you will have access to a range of Optiver perks, including:

  • A performance-based bonus structure unmatched anywhere in the industry. We combine our profits across desks, teams and offices into a global profit pool, fostering a truly collaborative environment.
  • The chance to work alongside diverse and intelligent peers in a rewarding environment.
  • Training, mentorship and personal development opportunities.
  • Daily breakfast, lunch and an in-house barista.
  • Gym membership plus weekly in-house chair massages.
  • Regular social events, including a company trip every two years.
  • Guided relocation, a competitive relocation package and visa sponsorship where necessary.

DIVERSITY STATEMENT

Optiver is committed to diversity and inclusion, and it is hardwired through every stage of our hiring process. We encourage applications from candidates from any and all backgrounds, and we welcome requests for reasonable adjustments during the process to ensure that you can best demonstrate your abilities.
