RBA is currently seeking a Tech Lead to join our Platform Engineering team in IT for a fixed term contract ending March 2027.

About the role

At the RBA, Platform Engineering is shaping the future of DevOps at the Bank. It is key to leading the way in which automation changes the way we deliver.

This role is central to the Group and supporting the DevOps services of the entire Bank.

  • Design, build, and evolve scalable hybrid infrastructure architectures spanning on‑premises VMware environments and Microsoft Azure.
  • Lead the development and adoption of software‑defined infrastructure patterns to improve operational efficiency, security, and system stability.
  • Define and manage compute, networking, and cloud resources using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Perform analysis and design of new platform solutions, ensuring designs align with RBA enterprise architecture and IT standards.
  • Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies, tools, and techniques where they deliver clear business value.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner closely with system owners and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into clear technical roadmaps.
  • Provide technical leadership within the Platform Engineering team, mentoring engineers and promoting engineering best practices.
  • Work collaboratively across Agile delivery teams (Scrum, Kanban) to support consistent and high‑quality outcomes.
  • Communicate complex technical designs and decisions effectively to non‑technical audiences.

About You

  • 5+ years’ experience in platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or DevOps within large-scale production environments.
  • Proven experience managing Microsoft Azure and strong infrastructure knowledge.
  • Experience with DevOps tooling such as Azure DevOps Services, Maven, Artifactory, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong expertise with Terraform in live production environments.
  • Strong experience on PowerShell and Java or .Net.
  • Experience designing and operating CI/CD and release pipelines.
  • Strong Linux and Windows Server administration skills.
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tooling (e.g. Puppet).
  • Solid understanding of secure coding, automation security, and DevSecOps principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum/Kanban teams.

Desirable

  • Experience with Kubernetes and container platforms.
  • Experience working with APIs and integration patterns.
  • Demonstrated contribution to platform design patterns, standards, and architectural guidance.
  • Relevant industry certifications (or working towards accreditation within 12 months).
