Challenger Limited is an ASX-listed investment management firm managing $123.9 billion in assets (as at 30 June 2025). Life with us is fast moving and always exciting. Together we’re driving to deliver our vision to provide our customers with financial security for a better retirement.

We achieve this goal by providing a work environment where people from diverse backgrounds, with a range of skills and experiences can contribute and succeed.

Finance Manager – Funds Management Finance Team

If you want a role where you can see the impact of your work every day and be close to decision-makers, this is it.  You’ll step into a Finance Manager role where you own the numbers, shape financial outcomes and build real visibility across our Funds Management (FM) business.

  • You’ll take end-to-end ownership of financial control and reporting, working directly with senior leaders and Boards.
  • You’ll balance hands-on technical work with meaningful stakeholder influence — no sitting in the background.
  • You’ll keep building your leadership capability while staying close to the detail.
  • We work flexibly from our Sydney CBD Office (Typically 3 days in office, 2 from home).
We’re taking a short break over the festive period - Applications are welcome, but there may be a delay in hearing back from us until mid-January. Thank you for your understanding and wishing you wonderful break

What you’ll do

As Finance Manager, you’ll take full ownership of financial control and accounting for a portfolio that spans:

• Our UK and European business
Domestic corporate entities and affiliate fund managers

Unlike many finance roles, you’ll see how your work drives decisions and outcomes across the business.

You’ll lead month-end and year-end reporting for FM entities — giving you control of critical financial outcomes and a chance to sharpen your control leadership.

This is a high-visibility role with exposure to leadership and Boards, as well as senior Group stakeholders. You’ll be a trusted voice in the room and help shape how financial performance is communicated and understood across the business.

Other key areas of ownership will include

  • Own the rebate process and calculation systems — becoming the subject-matter expert on a high-profile area.

  • Prepare and present results at affiliate Board meetings — rare exposure at this level and a chance to build Board-level communication skills.

  • Coordinate external audits — shaping how audits run, resolving issues early and driving continuous improvement.

  • Partner with boutique principals, Group Finance, Legal, CoSec and auditors — building trusted relationships and providing insights, not just data.

  • Drive process improvements and help embed effective use of Workday and Workiva.

The skills you’ll need

You’re a hands-on Finance Manager who’s confident in the detail but comfortable influencing bigger conversations. You’ll likely have a CA/CPA qualification and around 3–4+ years’ experience in financial control or senior accounting roles.

While experience in funds management is helpful, it’s not essential - we’re open to candidates from other parts of financial services or commercial environments who bring strong controls experience and solid financial statement understanding.

You’ll also have;

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including accounting for tax, and experience across financial and regulatory reporting

  • A hands-on, problem-solving approach, with strong analytical and decision-making skills

  • Experience identifying and managing financial risks

Highly Desirable

  • Experience with Workday or Workiva — helpful in a team that’s lifting system capability and improving how financial information is delivered.

  • Interest in funds management or investment products — ideal if you’re looking to deepen your exposure in this industry.
