Your Team
The Legal Counsel role sits within CFS’s Superannuation, Investments and Advice Legal team, supporting key strategic priorities such as adviser growth, customer engagement, partnerships, and advancements in advice, retirement, CX, and technology. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the role works closely with business units, senior management, risk and compliance, and regulatory boards. It also engages with external industry bodies to support business outcomes and ensure compliance.
Your Responsibilities
You will assist business stakeholders, management and the relevant boards by:
- Providing incisive, practical legal advice on a range of platforms, superannuation or managed investments matters, including advice on product design matters, disclosure, regulatory compliance, distribution, negotiation of agreements and restructuring activities.
- Providing plain English, accurate, timely, advice through effective communication.
- Maintaining and enhancing a strong culture of compliance and managing risk in terms of regulatory and legal obligations.
- Establishing and maintaining effective and positive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external contacts.
- Contributing to the achievement of the goals and targets for the legal team.
Being an active and contributing team member on simplifying processes and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Your Capability and Experience
Mandatory
- Significant years of experience in PQE in financial services, ideally having spent time in private practice.
- Experience in platforms, superannuation or managed investments, with a strong willingness to develop expertise further. This is particularly in relation to advising on the Corporations Act, ASIC instruments and policy, superannuation legislation, and the practical implementation of these requirements.
- Ability to manage stakeholder relationships and becoming a valued and trusted adviser, work collaboratively to contribute positively to team outcomes, and escalating issues where appropriate.
Desirable:
Good experience in navigating complex environments, adapting to evolving priorities and managing end-to-end legal or regulatory issues.
Strategic thinking potential and track record of supporting product development and negotiation of key commercial arrangements.
