Job Description

As Legal Counsel, you will provide practical, commercially focused legal support to our Australia and New Zealand business across contracts, project delivery, risk management, compliance and disputes. Reporting to the Managing Legal Counsel – ANZ, you will work closely with business leaders, project teams and commercial stakeholders to manage legal and contractual risk across the full project lifecycle.

Day to day, you will review, draft and negotiate consultancy agreements, subcontracts, NDAs and supplier agreements in line with Egis’ risk profile and delegations, and provide timely, commercially pragmatic advice across project delivery, procurement and operational matters. You will support project teams with contract interpretation and contractual risk, assist with disputes, claims and insurer notifications, and help maintain our legal templates, playbooks and standard documentation.

Beyond the day-to-day, you will support legal review of bids, tenders and major project pursuits, help lift legal and commercial awareness across the business, and work closely with the broader APAC and Group Legal teams. This is a hands-on role for someone who likes to roll up their sleeves, work through the grey areas and help the business get good commercial outcomes – not just the textbook answer.

Qualifications

You will be an admitted legal practitioner in Australia or New Zealand with around 3–5+ years’ post-qualification experience, ideally gained in or alongside construction, infrastructure, engineering consultancy or professional services. In addition, you will have:

  • Sound knowledge of contract law, risk management and compliance principles, with experience drafting and negotiating consultancy and commercial agreements
  • Exposure to disputes, claims, litigation or insurance matters (advantageous)
  • A practical, commercial mindset – comfortable working in the grey and balancing risk with getting the deal done
  • Genuine flexibility and a get-in-and-do-it attitude, with the ability to take ownership and work autonomously in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build effective relationships across technical and non-technical teams
  • A collaborative, approachable and values-driven approach, with the resilience to stay calm under pressure

Additional Information

Egis is committed to creating an inclusive, flexible, and values-led workplace. We support flexible work arrangements and provide a collaborative environment where our people can develop and grow their careers.

We are expanding in the Asia Pacific Region and are excited for you to join our growing team.
