Justworks's Candidate Tradeoffs

Justworks Employee Perspectives

What's it like to work on the marketing team at Justworks?

We're in the middle of a real transformation at Justworks, moving from marketing as a service function to marketing as a strategic growth driver. That shapes the day-to-day: you're helping decide where growth comes from and how we get there.

The Justworks marketing team is deeply cross-functional; we work as one connected system rather than teams optimizing their own channels, and we partner closely with Product, Sales, and Customer Success to understand the challenges, wins, and general goings on of the founders we serve.Trust, speed, and service inform our work– AI is embedded in our core workflows, freeing people to focus on judgment and strategy rather than things like admin and manual reporting.

What stands out most about the team is how genuinely mission-driven it is. Justworks exists to help small businesses move forward with confidence, and it's the reason the work feels different. Small business is our only business, and that focus shows up in every decision the team makes. That also means the work is deeply customer-centric.

The marketing team is ambitious and low-ego. The best idea wins regardless of who it comes from, and we're united around one thing: helping small businesses grow with confidence.

How does your team shape the way customers, candidates, or the market understand your brand?

Our job is to make sure people understand what Justworks really stands for - the platform and partner for the small business journey - not just a name they've seen. Our work reaches several audiences: growth stage companies (currently and in the future part of our Justworks community), talent (Justworkers and amazing candidates in the field), and the business community.

For growth stage companies, we start with empathy, because we know running a business can be overwhelming. It may be easier than ever to start a business, but complexity has never been greater, which means there's more to worry about in 2026 than even just a few years ago. We want to celebrate founders’ strength and help them feel seen, while acknowledging the weight they carry. Everything we create reinforces one core promise: “you don’t have to worry when it Justworks.”

When it comes to talent, we work with our incredible People team to reach top candidates, no matter where they are in their career. We lean into storytelling, often through the lens of how Justworkers show up for our customers so any new hire really understands how mission-central our company is.

And, for the business community, our work brings stories from across the organization to life. We partner with our product and product marketing teams on integrated go-to-market activities to highlight new solutions and how we built them to meet SMBs where they are. AI is embedded across our platform to help customers get the answers they need when they need them. Agents answer what they can so our amazing customer support team has the space to step in when a human is needed for the solution.

Whether someone sees our branding on the NY-NJ ferry, attends one of our community events where our customers are always at the center, engages with a thought leadership piece on LinkedIn, reads about upcoming product launches in the press, or uses Justworks every day, each touchpoint should deliver our message consistently: we see you, founders, and we’re here to help you run your business. We build our products with that in mind and we hire great people with that at the center. That promise has to be felt, not announced; it shows up in the actual experience.

What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity, or collaboration behind marketing work at Justworks?

We're building what we believe is one of the best marketing teams in NYC-based tech. That means constantly raising the bar not just on our craft, but on how we orchestrate marketing across disciplines to create connected, end-to-end experiences.

Marketing is a strategic function at Justworks. Working closely with our CEO, CFO, CRO, and tech leaders across the organization, we are embedded and helping to drive company-level decision-making. These cross-functional partnerships eliminate silos, and help our teams feel a true sense of ownership in work because we’re all working toward common company-wide goals. We’re moving quickly, and in lock step–you can’t have one without the other.

That's where our culture of velocity comes in. We form strong hypotheses, get work into the market, learn fast, and improve - not speed for its own sake, but pairing thoughtful strategy with rapid learning and always keeping the trust of our community at the forefront. AI fluency and commercial fluency are baseline expectations here; the shift is from executing tasks to orchestrating outcomes.

If you're energized by high standards, real collaboration, and the chance to help reposition a category, you'll find people always pushing to get better.
